About Habitat of Benton County, Inc.
Habitat for Humanity of Benton County , Inc. is an non-denominational Christian housing ministry with the objective of elimination poverty housing from within Benton County and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience as well as action. In addition to building houses, Habitat for Humanity helps to build relationships with families and the community that result in a sense of belonging to the community for the new homeowner.
History
Habitat of Benton County was formed in 2000 from the merger of
Rogers Habitat and Sugar Creek Habitat which served the Bentonville
school district. The two affiliates decided to join and become
Habitat for Humanity of Benton County, Inc.
By combining the two affiliates it made obtaining donations and
grants easier and building homes in Benton County that much more
efficient and cost effective. This also helped to centralize
the operation for our volunteers in terms of travel for them and
expense for the new affiliate.
Since that merger in 2000 we will have built over 27 homes and
opened a very successful ReStore. The ReStore sells used and
new building materials to the public at greatly reduced retail.
Proceeds from the ReStore are used to reduce our operating expense
and help to fund the building of more Habitat homes.
December of 2007 we
celebrated the completion of our 50th home to be built in Benton
County. This home was built in the Trails in Rogers and
was our fourth home in the
Trails. In
January of 2008 we dedicated home #51 in the Trails to make five
homes now completed in
Habitat Trails.
We have now completed two more homes in Gravette and are currently
building our first home in Siloam Springs. Dedication for this
home is to be August 14th at 6:30 PM.
